NCCT Medical Assistant

Become a skilled and certified Medical Assistant through the comprehensive NCCT Medical Assistant Certification program at Lamar State College Orange. While completing the program earns you a certificate of completion, students who wish to pursue certification through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) must successfully complete additional courses such as Pharmacology & Administration of Medications. MDCA 1048 - Pharmacology & Administration of Medications

Instruction in concepts and application of pharmacological principles. Focuses on drug classifications, principles and procedures of medication administration, mathematical systems and conversions, calculation of drug problems, and medico-legal responsibilities of the medical assistant.

Admission requirements for MDCA 1048 include proof of completion of Medical Assisting Certificate consisting of: 

  • HITT 1305 - Medical Terminology I
  • ECRD 1211 - Electrocardiography
  • PLAB 1223 - Phlebotomy
  • PLAB 1160 - Clinical-Phlebotomy

  • BIOL 1322 - Nutrition & Diet Therapy
  • FDNS 1345 - Medical Nutrition Therapy I

Choose One:

  • NURA 1301 - Nurse Aide for Health Care
  • VNSG 1323 - Basic Nursing Skills

Choose One:

  • NURA 1160 - Clinical Nursing Assistant/Aide and Patient Care Assistant/Aide
  • VNSG 1160 - Clinical I Practical Nurse

Tuition and Fees

$500 Tuition

The Lamar State College Orange Community and Workforce Education Department does not accept financial aid, federal student loans, or payment plans for the $500 tuition fee. Full payment is required at least 3 business days prior to beginning the program. All payments are non-refundable after the registration deadline.

After Successful Completion:

Completion of this course will give the ability to prepare, administer, and document oral and percutaneous medications; calculate drug dosages for administration by standard routes for adult and pediatric patients; demonstrate inventory handling and storage; and adhere to governmental health care guidelines and biohazard protocols.

It is the student's responsibility to register, pay, and successfully complete this LSCO approved medication administration course. Should a student attempt to take the certification exam without this approved course, then that student may be subject to penalties per the NCCT Rules and Regulations.
