Financial Aid for Spring Mini and Summer 2024
Financial Aid for the spring mini and summer is available to current and newly admitted Lamar State College Orange (LSCO) students.
Spring Mini
For financial aid purposes, the spring mini intersession is considered part of the summer semester that follows it. The number of credits taken during this intersession is combined with the number of credits taken in summer to determine your eligibility for financial aid. This does not include Veteran Education Benefits.
Financial aid for the Spring Mini will not be disbursed until the summer disbursement date. Financial aid will not be provided in advance of the summer disbursement date. If you have enough authorized financial aid to cover the balance of both summer and the spring mini intersession, the Financial Aid Office will place a hold on your account and you will not be dropped from your spring mini classes. If you do not have enough authorized financial aid to cover both the summer and spring mini intersession, you will need to make a payment to prevent being dropped for non-payment.
You must stay enrolled and complete the spring mini intersession for the enrollment to count towards your summer financial aid eligibility. Your enrollment on the summer financial aid freeze date will be used to determine your eligibility for grants. Dropping the spring mini course or not attending may cause you to owe money back to LSCO or the U.S. Department of Education.
Spring Mini/Summer Financial Aid Eligibility Criteria
- Be admitted to LSCO as a regular student and enrolled in a degree or eligible certificate program. If you attend another school and are only taking classes at LSCO during the spring mini or summer with plans to return to your other school in the Fall, you are not eligible for financial aid.
- Complete the 2023-2024 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and be meeting the basic eligibility requirements for financial aid as determined by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Must be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards (SAP) at the end of the Spring semester. Your spring and/or summer aid is typically awarded before spring grades post in May. Once spring grades post in May, we are required to determine if you are meeting the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements. If you are not meeting the SAP requirements, you will lose financial aid eligibility.
- Must be enrolled in current spring mini or summer classes (You must be enrolled in at least six credits hours for most types of financial aid.)
- Must complete any unsatisfied financial aid items for the 2023-2024 aid year listed in your Gator Self-Service account.
How to Apply for Spring Mini/Summer Aid
Complete the spring mini/summer aid request form after you have registered for classes. This application will allow the financial aid office to determine your financial aid eligibility.
- The enrollment you indicate on your application must match your actual enrollment in order for us to process your aid request. Discrepancies between what is indicated on the application and what you are actually enrolled in may slow down the awarding process and you may be asked to submit a new application if your enrollment does not match.
- You will be notified via email when your financial aid award is viewable in Gator Self Service.
- If you are a new transfer student to LSCO, your summer financial aid eligibility may be limited based on aid received at the prior institution(s) attended.
- If you are receiving a federal direct loan, your loan will have two disbursement dates. The first disbursement will occur ten days before the summer session you are enrolled in starts and the second will occur midway through the summer term.
- First year first time borrowers are subject to a 30 day hold on loans.
- PLEASE NOTE: If you change your initial credit hour enrollment after your financial aid has been awarded, you must contact our office. It is possible that your award amount is incorrect and will need adjusting.
Sources of Aid
Students who are eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant according to the expected family contribution (EFC) calculated on the 2023-2024 FAFSA may be eligible to receive Federal Pell Grant funds during the Summer 2024 term. The amount awarded will be prorated based on enrollment, not to exceed 50% of the maximum amount listed on your Student Aid Report (SAR).
Students who have attended full-time during Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 must be enrolled at least half-time for Summer 2024 to be considered for Federal Pell Grant funds. The amount awarded will count towards the student's Pell Lifetime Eligibility Used (maximum lifetime limit).
State grants may be available for undergraduate students enrolled in at least six credit hours. If eligible, you will be packaged institutional grants when your Summer Aid Application is processed.
The Temple Grant Program is intended to support students who are college ready and are close to or making progress towards credential completion of middle to high-wage high-demand jobs in the region. Students must meet specific eligibility criteria to qualify. A separate application is required and available here. Funding is limited so students are encouraged to apply early.

For Federal Direct Subsidized Loans, eligibility is dependent upon demonstrated financial aid need and grade level.
