Lamar State College Orange Foundation

The Lamar State College Orange Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works in behalf of Lamar State College Orange.

The foundation traces its roots to the early 1970s when local citizens organized a drive to raise $250,000 to purchase the first campus building in downtown Orange. The success of this campaign and the subsequent growth of the campus prompted a more formal organization. A. H. “Bob” Montagne, H. D. Pate, and Ron Borel incorporated the foundation in 1983. Carlton “Corky” Harmon and Lois Smith were added to the board of directors at the initial meeting, and the foundation began its efforts to support the Orange campus. Borel and Harmon served continuously on the board since that time and helped the foundation grow to more than $5.2 million in assets.

The foundation’s efforts on behalf of Lamar Orange focus on two major areas of need: scholarships and capital improvements. Scholarship awards from the foundation have been instrumental in providing educational opportunities for a number of area students. The foundation is committed to enlarging the scholarship pool so that financial concerns will not be a barrier to higher education. Every dollar of scholarship money donated to the foundation is used directly in support of deserving students.

The creation of a functional and attractive campus and the maintenance of the Brown Estate have also been prime concerns of the foundation. The foundation has played a direct or indirect role in the acquisition of all of the real estate that now constitutes the downtown campus. They also oversee an endowment fund that assists with the upkeep of the Brown Estate.

The Lamar State College Orange Foundation provides an attractive vehicle for donors who wish to lend their support to the college. All donations to the foundation are tax-deductible, and donations can be directed to areas of special interest. The foundation can assist you with estate planning, the creation of memorial endowments, or other special projects. You may contact the foundation through the Office of the President (409-882-3314).
