Medical Assisting Certification Requirements

EKG and Phlebotomy Certification Testing - NCCT

The National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) validates the competence of candidates by examination. The certification provides recognition of competence to individuals who meet specified criteria and qualifications. Lamar State College Orange students/graduates who have completed the ECRD 1211 Electrocardiography course and/or PLAB 1223 Phlebotomy along with PLAB 1160 Phlebotomy clinical component courses in the Medical Assisting Certificate Program are eligible to sit for the National Certified ECG Technicians exam and Phlebotomy Technicians exam respectfully. Nurse Aide Certification Testing - NATCEP

The Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP) validates the competence of candidates by examination. Lamar State College Orange students/graduates who have completed VNSG 1323 Basic Nursing Skills and VNSG 1160 Clinical Practical Nurse I courses are eligible to apply to sit for the Nurse Aide Certification exam offered through NATCEP. Certification information can be found on Prometric's Texas Nurse Aide website.

The website also includes a practice written exam and other information. It is the sole responsibility of the student to know the date, time, and place of testing.

Before being certified and placed on the National Registry for CNAs, individuals must pass a Criminal Background Check. Please see additional information regarding Criminal Background Check for CNAs.
