October 13, 2025

Thomas ‘Kash’ Cox was promoted to chief information officer in September. This advancement comes after over two decades of commitment to the Lamar State College system and three and a half years with the shared services department.
Cox boasts an Associate's Degree in Business and Computer Information Systems from Lamar Institute of Technology and three degrees from Lamar University - a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems, Master of Science in Management Information Systems, and Master of Business Administration in Enterprise Resource Planning.
In his time in shared services with Lamar State College Orange, Lamar State College Port Arthur, and Lamar Institute of Technology, he has worked as the assistant vice president of information technology services and chief technology officer. His time in these positions has enabled his seamless transition to chief information officer, where he now leads the strategic vision and management of all IT operations to support the colleges' academic and administrative goals.
“My new role is to align technology initiatives with the college’s mission, driving innovation and efficient IT service delivery across the institution,” Cox said.
The people around him and the opportunity to make a difference in students’ lives are what motivates his work most. The collaborative aspects of his job drive him to continually show up for his team and those he serves.
“What excites me most about this new role is the opportunity to lead an outstanding IT team that collaborates closely with faculty and staff to make a meaningful impact on students’ lives and drive the overall success of the institution,” he stated.
LSCO has made a positive impact on Cox both personally and professionally. The college’s culture has pushed him to further his dedication to higher education and to always look for ways to pour into the lives of students and his coworkers.
“LSCO has deepened my commitment to higher education and the power it has to change lives,” Cox said. “It’s a privilege to contribute to an institution that plays such a vital role in the community, and I take pride in knowing my work helps support the academic journeys and future success of so many.”
Outside of work, Cox is heavily involved in his church community. He enjoys serving in any capacity he can to give back to the ministry he loves. His faith is the root of his life and gives him a steady foundation to perform well in work and outside of it.
“My faith is a foundational part of my life,” Cox stated. “I strive to put God first in everything I do and give Him the glory. Serving on the connections team and in the children’s ministry allows me to live out those values and give back to others.”
Cox is grateful to the president and CFO for entrusting him with his new role. He feels truly honored to be chosen and is committed to putting his best foot forward in his work every day.
