Artists from French & Company, New York, were commissioned to paint the mural in the foyer. The entrance hall mural extends up the staircase and continues on the second floor. As your eye follows the mural it seems only natural that the scene recedes in the distance. It took nine months to paint and was completed in 1956. Mr. Edgar Brown later added his own touch to the mural by painting some of the ducks and birds himself.

The winding stairway has a lariat effect. This was Mr. Edgar Brown's idea and his own design. It reflects Mr. Edgar's affection for horses and the wide-open spaces. The architectural firm that built the stairway first made a replica and hung rope in it to see how it would fall. They measured the rope exactly and reproduced the lariat effect in wrought iron, whipping the ends as you would a length of rope. The stairway was built in one piece by Ramsey & Kent in conjunction with Levingston, lifted into the house, and put in place before the roof was installed.
