This room was originally the Brown family drawing room. It is now furnished with a dining room suite donated to Lamar by Virginia Mae Birdwell (neƩ Rothwell). The furniture is of a Rococo/Gothic Revival period with heavy carving and elaborate design. There were ten chairs to this suite, but two were lost when it was in storage.
The handmade Turkish carpet, (vegetable dyes), the Adams marble fireplace with gold mirror, Victorian marble top, and the Chickering player piano are all original furnishings. The gold mirror/planter was donated by the Robert J. and Elizabeth T. Long family from their home in Austin. The triple hung windows open full length to provide passage into the Sun Room to facilitate the movement of relatively large numbers of people.
