Day Care Assistance Program
Thank you for your interest in the Lamar State College-Orange Day Care Assistance Program. The program is designed to lessen the financial cost of day care for qualifying students who show a financial need and an ability to benefit from post-secondary education. Program assistance covers $50.00 per week, per child attending day care.
How The Program Works:
Day Care Assistance for students majoring in Career Technical Education (CTE) programs is funded through the Carl D. Perkins Grant. Assistance for students majoring in non-CTE majors is funded through Student Services.
Day Care Assistance will cover from the first class day through the last day of the semester or Summer session. The student must be prepared to pay for the first month of day care services while applications are being reviewed. Applicants will be notified by mail after the 12th class day during the Fall or Spring semester and after the 4th class day during a Summer session as to whether or not they will be receiving day care assistance for the semester.
The day care provider is paid by LSC-O once per month after an invoice is received from the day care provider and the student has submitted their Weekly Attendance Sheets, signed by his/her instructors. Payment will depend upon the student attending classes and the child(ren) attending day care. The student will be responsible for paying any remaining weekly cost to the day care provider.
It is the applicant's responsibility to select a day care provider. Applicants may search online at www.txchildcaresearch.org to find providers, obtain phone numbers and locations, and research licensing history and compliance with health and safety standards. Applicants may want to visit the day care under consideration to speak with the caregivers and observe the interaction between the children and staff, as well as speak to other parents who have children attending that day care.
- Registered for a minimum of 12 semester hours during a regular semester (Fall or Spring) and either 3 semester hours during each Summer session or 6 semester hours if enrolled for only one Summer session. The Day Care Assistance Program does not cover Mini-sessions.
- No more than 50% of classes can be taken online.
- Maintain at least 2.0 institutional cumulative GPA.
To Apply for Day Care Assistance:
The deadline to apply for each semester is on the 12th class day of each long semester (Fall or Spring) and on the 4th class day of the Summer Session. The application for Summer 2015 can be downloaded here. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Please be aware that completing an application does not guarantee that a student will qualify for and/or receive Day Care Assistance.
Applicants must print and completely fill out the application, compile all necessary documentation, and turn everything in to Kara Carline in the Advising & Counseling Office (Ron Lewis Library Bldg., Rm. 355). Please sign in at the front desk and indicate that you need to see Kara. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
If the applicant is majoring in a Career Technical Education (CTE) program, this must be indicated in the space provided on the application. Please note that taking pre-requisite courses to transfer to the BSN program at Lamar University does not make you a CTE major. Click here to see a list of CTE majors.
The selected day care provider must complete a Vendor Information Form and a W-9. It is the applicant's responsibility to make sure his/her child care provider completes those forms and they must be submitted with the application. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
If the applicant needs documents notarized, they can see Stephanie Jones in Student Services (Ron Lewis Library Bldg., Rm. 358). Students will be required to present a state-issued ID card to have documents notarized.
