Phlebotomy Program

The Phlebotomy program at Lamar State College-Orange is a 68-hour, noncredit program.  The program includes 32 hours of lecture followed by 36 hours of field-based, clinical experience.

Students admitted to the course will be required to obtain the following BEFORE the beginning of their class:

  • Journal notebook
  • Immunization record
  • Sharpie fine point
  • Scrubs
  • *TB skin test & *Hepatitis B vaccine series

* get shots up-to-date ASAP

This course will provide skill development in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods, using proper techniques and universal precautions. Includes vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture, and specimen collection in adults, children, and infants. Emphasis is on infection prevention, proper patient identification, labeling of specimen and quality assurance, specimen handling, processing and accessing. Topics include professionalism, ethics, and medical terminology.
