Lamar State College-Orange Foundation
The Lamar State College-Orange Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, that works in behalf of Lamar State College-Orange.
The foundation traces its roots to the early 1970s when local citizens organized a drive to raise $250,000 to purchase the first campus building in downtown Orange. The success of this campaign and the subsequent growth of the campus prompted a more formal organization. The Lamar-Orange Foundation received its charter in 1983 and began efforts to support the educational mission of Lamar State College-Orange. Under the direction of a local board, the foundation has been instrumental in securing more than $1 million in gifts and donations.
The foundation's efforts on behalf of Lamar-Orange focus on two major areas of need: scholarships and capital improvements. Scholarship awards from the foundation have been instrumental in providing educational opportunity to a number of area students. The foundation is committed to enlarging the scholarship pool so that financial concerns will not be a barrier to higher education. Every dollar of scholarship money donated to the foundation is used directly in support of deserving students.
The creation of a functional and attractive campus has also been a prime objective of the foundation. The foundation board of directors supports Lamar-Orange's efforts to redevelop downtown real estate for educational purposes and has worked to obtain donations of property and money for this purpose. A very visible reminder of the foundation's success in this realm is the recent landscape improvements. The foundation secured the donation of property to tie the four-block campus quadrangle together and helped raise funds to pay for the landscaping.
The Lamar State College-Orange Foundation provides an attractive vehicle for donors who wish to lend their support to the campus. All donations to the foundation are tax deductible, and donors can direct their money to areas of special interest. The foundation can assist with estate planning, the creation of memorial endowments or other special projects. You may contact the foundation through the Office of the President (409-882-3314) at Lamar-Orange.
